How SM Finishes Achieved AS9100 Certification
AS9100 certified electroplating in India is a quality-system fact, not a slogan. SM Finishes (S M FINISHES) added AS9100:2015 in March 2022, after ISO 9001:2015 in July 2021, at the Machohalli, Bengaluru plant founded in October 2019.
The company was formed in October 2019 under founder and managing partner William Anthony Raj J (27 years in surface engineering). First defence production lots shipped in November 2020. Automotive PPAP work is documented from 2021. ISO 9001:2015 came in July 2021. AS9100:2015 followed in March 2022. ZED Bronze was added in November 2024. Those dates are on the About timeline and in Organization schema — they are not invented uniqueness claims, and we do not call ourselves the only AS9100 electroplater in Bengaluru.
What AS9100 changed on the shop floor
For hybrid connector gold, silver, tin and nickel, AS9100 is how thickness, undercoats, travellers and change notes stay auditable when the part is aerospace or defence. A silent bath or racking change mid-programme is the failure mode the standard is written to stop. We use the same discipline on automotive and electronics lots when the customer asks, including REACH & RoHS certified processes, plus named audits with Maruti, Schneider and Kostal — named on approvals and the case-studies page. OEM programmes include SpaceX and Israel Defence.
AS9100 did not replace ISO 9001; it sits on top of it. It also does not replace the ASTM/MIL finish callout on the drawing. Buyers who need both should see MIL-spec plating standards explained and defence electroplating.
What to ask on an RFQ
- Named thickness and measurement method on functional areas.
- Undercoat called out, not assumed.
- Whether first-article, PPAP or AS9100 travellers are required.
