Plating Hybrid Connectors for Japanese OEMs
Japanese connector and automotive SQA teams judge a plating house on thickness control, change control and PPAP language — not on brochure photography. This note explains how SM Finishes in Bengaluru works those programmes.
Hybrid connectors for Japanese OEM platforms combine signal, power and sometimes high-speed data in one housing. Gold on the signal contact, tin on the solder tail and nickel on the shell is a common stack. Each layer has to be documented as if it were an aerospace process, even when the part is automotive.
SM Finishes holds ISO 9001:2015, AS9100:2015 and ZED Bronze. We have REACH & RoHS certified processes, plus named audits with Maruti Suzuki, Schneider Electric and Kostal. OEM programmes include SpaceX and Israel Defence. Founder William Anthony Raj J has 27 years in surface engineering; the company has operated from Machohalli, Magadi Road, Bengaluru since 2019.
What to send in a Japan RFQ
- Plating specification (including Japanese OEM standards if they apply) and thickness on functional vs non-functional areas.
- Annual volume, packaging, and whether the part ships to Japan or to an India/ASEAN plant of a Japanese OEM.
- PPAP level and whether first-article is required before SOP.
Start on the Japan market page or contact engineering. Related finishes: gold, reel-to-reel spot gold, matte tin.
